The 27th Miami Yacht & Brokerage Show Round Up

The in-water display covers more than 1.2 million square feet of space over a mile-long strip of Indian Creek Waterway, featuring hundreds of new and pre-owned vessels valued at more than a billion dollars.

Even though the 27th show held a number of empty berths, this display of inventory is a sign of burgeoning health within the US brokerage market and the effects surrounding regions such as Mexico and South America have on the sector.

Speculative theories around the empty berths all focus on the increased activity in the region, or to put it simply, boats are selling. This pairs with another theory that revolves around the dwindling interest some owners have toward bringing their yachts to certain shows; however, wherever the truth lays, the Miami Yacht & Brokerage Show can be seen as either a result or contributing factor to the US re-emergence.

Highlights of the show included the new Palmer Johnson’s Supersport, La Pellegrina, Lady Lara, Skyfall, Skyfall II, Step One, Allegria, Odessa and Themis. These yachts acted as a flagship fleet to an armada of yachts at the show which kept a consistent pedigree from smaller boats to superyachts. celebrated the 27th edition of the show with selected partners by hosting two events last week; a lavish evening at the Regalia and a sophisticated night on board La Pellegrina - the second largest yacht at the Miami Yacht & Brokerage Show - with Denison Superyacht Division. Feadship Launches Superyacht Kiss On Valentines Day

The story behind Kiss is linked in a number of ways to the 46.22m Como launched in 2014. Como made a big impact at last year’s Monaco Yacht Show and single-handedly proved that size is not the only factor in high-quality yacht building.

“With yachts like Como and Kiss we are effectively building a sport type boat around our average size of over 15 years ago,” explains Henk De Vries CEO of Feadship, “but now with all the know-how and intelligence Feadship has developed” De Vries explains. “This facilitates a clever approach to high-end production one which remains entirely custom while keeping the costs of a Feadship of this size within the bounds of reason.”

Half a year after signing the contract for Como, architect and designer Ed Dubois came to Feadship with another client. “Ed was highly appreciative of the way that the Feadship yards work with outside designers as well as the in-house naval architects at Feadship De Voogt,” De Vries continues. “Even though Como and Kiss have similar looks they are very different yachts. Most if not all yards would have taken a platform approach based on Como’s hull, offering the client a discount for the reduced amount of engineering. That’s not how Feadship does things.

“The owner of Kiss required a more conventional speed of 16 knots (Como is 19), so she has a different power plant. And while Como is a sports boat with an open top deck, Kiss has a complete master penthouse on the upper deck. This obviously added both volume and weight to the yacht, hence requiring a revised lines plan. Make no mistake, these are two different Feadships.”

Where Kiss did benefit from the Como project was Feadship’s enhanced ability to standardise not the product but the process. Successfully incorporating the production methods and the majority of engineering phases used on Como made Kiss cost-effective in production while still resulting in an entirely bespoke superyacht.

Kiss is also the most complex object ever to have been metallically painted, featuring a stunning metallic black hull with a red stripe on the waterline. This was another specific request by the client and required Feadship to develop special mixing machines and electrically-charged spray guns in order that all the metallic flakes would be in perfect order.

The interior of the boat is from the boards of Redman Whiteley Dixon and features a stark, crisp look. Mark Whiteley and Toby Ecuyer started together, Toby and Douglas Hynd completed the design work. “They did a fantastic job on Kiss,” adds De Vries. “It is never easy to take over an interior design project once underway and, on behalf of Feadship, I would like to say how impressed we are again with RWD's work.”

The powerful and purposeful exterior Dubois profile, with its large bulwark window measuring some 6.5 metres in width, generates a sporty ambience. A sense of openness is enhanced by the giant doors adjacent to the main entrance, which slide out three metres either side. All this combines to bathe the restfully austere interior in natural light, making for a genuinely soothing experience.

The complete owner’s deck – an unusual feature for a yacht under 50 metres – makes the most of both the volume and interior space. An aluminium-plated sun roof opens up to add to the light interior vibe. More al fresco-like pleasures include a sun deck with Jacuzzi and a transom swim platform with swim ladder and underwater platform.

Kiss also features superior accommodation for eight guests in four suites as well as four crew cabins, a staff room and a captain’s cabin positioned near the raised pilothouse.

Yachting Developments Progress Further On Hull 1012

Hull 1012 will be an elegant performance ocean cruising sloop, with an interior by Adam Lay Studio. In build for experienced owners and their family, her lifting keel will allow access to remote, shallow waters the world over.

Yachting Developments is now fully established in their new Hobsonville yard site, following the official move in December 2014. The increased capacity the new facility offers is proving invaluable with the company’s busy yacht, refit and commercial order books.

Complementing their construction work, Yachting Developments is always proud to follow and support the activity of their fleet around the globe. Many of the YD fleet are keen participants on the regatta scene and at the recent New Zealand Millennium Cup 2015 (21-23 January 2015), hosted for the first time in the Bay of Islands, no less than three Yachting Developments projects lined up to race.

As a silver sponsor of the event Yachting Developments was delighted to witness 37m Bliss, 33.8m Silvertip and iconic local boat 25m Steinlager 2 in action on their home waters. After some close fought racing Bliss came a very close second to eventual winner 50m Silencio, with Steinlager 2 winning the Pacific Cup division on the event.

Benetti Reports Strong Commercial Success Over 2014/15

This commercial success follows the news regarding the sale of two over 100m mega-yachts last year. The Benetti production line is working at full speed on 19 yachts, all to be delivered in 2015, including seven Custom projects 50m and larger and twelve Class semi-custom units.

With 45 yachts under construction in Livorno and Viareggio, and thanks to the constant attention paid towards clients and the yard's solid financial situation, Benetti is riding a wave of commercial success, confirming the market's interest for all the yard's models and new designs throughout the world.

Encouraged by these positive results and previsions for the future, Benetti, with an eye towards satisfying the continuing requests for their yachts, has decided to begin production of a 63m on spec. This will assure that even clients with short delivery constraints will have the possibility to own such a large yacht in a relatively short time.

The Hainan Rendez-Vous committee also noted on why November was especially chosen for this year’s event. “Taking into account the weather and temperature of Sanya, November was the perfect choice for tourists. Azimut|Benetti Build On Growing Presence In The Americas

After the recent success of the latest European boat shows, the Azimut|Benetti Group is setting out to impress visitors at the 2015 Miami Boat Show with a fleet of 16 yachts, including the two new models: The Azimut 50 Fly and Azimut 55S White - fronted by the 33m Benetti Tradition Supreme 108’, which had its world premiere at the Cannes Boat Show in September. .

Once again, Azimut|Benetti takes the US by storm with two exclusive new models, underscoring the commitment and attention paid to this important market. The Group's network of dealers in the Americas is becoming increasingly solid and widespread, and has recently been enhanced with the opening of Azimut Yacht Mexico.

With this substantial and well-displayed fleet, the Azimut|Benetti Group sets out to reiterate its confidence and satisfaction in this strategic market, as confirmed by the sales figures: while in late October 2014, the sale of 102 Azimut Yachts units was registered in the US and South America (excluding Brazil), in early February 2015, just one month into the new year, as many as 89 yachts have already been purchased in the same territory.

This is clearly an extremely important and fast-growing market, which is why, in September 2014, Azimut Yachts signed a new dealership agreement to open a showroom in Mexico, thus bringing the number of stores in the Americas to over 40.

The Mexican market is proving to be highly promising for the Group: in just a few months, four vessels have already been sold, including one of the newer models, the Azimut Grande 112. Azimut Yachts Mexico avails of an extensive sales and service network, with offices in Mexico City, Cancun, Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta. This comes on top of a successful network of dealers already active in Canada, Alaska, Guatemala, Panama, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela and Chile.
